Wet weather did little to dampen the spirits of the Caboolture Sports Football Club on the weekend, as the start of the season for all teams was officially marked.

Despite games being washed out on Sunday, MiniRoos, junior and senior teams across various divisions kicked off their seasons on Friday and Saturday, joining other Caboolture sides which have been playing over the past month.

Player numbers are up from last year, with more than 600 taking to the field across over 50 teams, with Head of Football Operations Paul Shorter highlighting Caboolture's move into the Brisbane competition as a contributing factor to the buzz around the club.

“It’s a better standard of football, and promotion and relegation keeps things exciting and gives everyone something to play for,” he said.

“Having so many teams also means we need a huge volunteer base, and the team we have at our club really is exceptional.

” Both senior men’s teams have had strong starts to the season in Capital League 3, with A-grade sitting in second spot with four wins from their opening five games, and reserve grade in fifth with two wins and two draws.

With a new-look squad and a promising pre-season, the women’s side drew 0-0 in round one of the Capital League on the weekend, against one of the competition’s strongest side’s in Park Ridge.

“We’re confident our senior teams can be promoted again and continue moving up the ranks, as was the plan when we first entered the Brisbane competition,” Shorter said.

“We also had juniors playing all over Brissy on the weekend, and from all reports they’re really enjoying their football, which at the end of the day is what matters most.”

“There’s a really good feeling at the club, with lots of exciting things happening now and into the future.

“We’ll be moving to our new state-of-the-art complex in Burpengary for the start of the 2019 season, which is keeping everyone on their toes at the moment.”

Shorter said the signing of former English League One player Paul Arnison as Director of Coaching was another huge boost for the club, bringing a wealth of experience both on the field and off.

That experience will be put to good use in the upcoming school holidays, with Arnison delivering a three day coaching clinic open to all players from under-6 to under-18 from any club.

Technical advice catered to each player from not only Arnison but fellow coaches from England, to be announced in the coming days, will make the clinic invaluable to players looking to gain a competitive edge, while games, prizes and other activities will keep the focus on enjoyment.
